National flag

  • The ratio of width of the flag to its length is two to three (2:3)
  • In the center of the white band is navy-blue wheel which represented the “chakras”.
  • Design of wheel same as appears on Sarnath loin capital of Ashoka.
  • The number of spoke is 24
  • National flag was adopted by the constituent assembly of India on July 22,1947.
  • The national flag was governed by the provision of the Emblems and Names (Prevention of proper use) Act 1950 and The prevention of national honour Act 1971
  • The flag code of India 2002 effected from January 26,2002 according to this code no restriction of display of national flag by general public etc.

 

 

State Emblem

  • It’s an adaptation from Sarnath lion capitol of Ashoka.
  • In the original –
  1. Four loins (mounted on abacus).
  2. Abacus carrying an elephant. A galloping hourse, a bull and a loin ,a wheel over bell shaped lotus.
  • Government of India adopted on 26 January 1950.only three loin visible. The wheel appears in the center of the abacus with a bull on right and a horse on left and outlines of the other wheel on extreme right and left
  • The words satyameva jayate from Mundaka Upanishad, meaning “Truth Alone Triumphs”. Are Inscribed below the Abacus in Devanagri script.
  • The use of state emblem of India, as the official seal of the Government of India , is regulated by the state of India act, 2005.

 

National Anthem   

  • Jana gana mana written by Rabindranath Tagore in Bengali language
  • Hindi version adopted as the national anthem on January 24,1950
  • It was first sung on December 27,1911 at Kolkata session of congress
  • Duration 52 second and short version playing time 20 second.
National song
  • Vande matram written in Sanskrit by Bankimchandra Chatterji
  • It was first sung in 1896 at congress session.
National calendar
  • Based on saka era , with chaitra as its first month and a normal year of 365 days was adopted from March 22, along with the Gregorian calendar .
